Sony 35 mm F1.4 GM Lens for Sony Full Frame Cameras
Finally after a decade of waiting sony users got their very first 35mm f1.4 lens for their full-frame cameras. This lens is going to built like a premium lens because it's a G-Master series lens and we all know the other GM lenses out there on the market, yeah the price is expensive the quality is excellent. The 35mm focal length is one of the versatile lens for portrait shots unlike the 50mm or 85mm which will give you much tighter shots.

This lens if classic wide-angle prime with an updated, sleek design, the Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM is characterized by its speed and relatively compact form factor. The versatile focal length suits everything from street shooting to landscape and documentary subjects, and the fast maximum aperture excels in low light and for controlling depth of field.

This lens has two XA (eXtreme Aspherical) elements and one extra-low dispersion element reduce a variety of aberrations, color fringing, and distortion, and the optics are complemented by a Nano AR II coating that also suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast. Balancing the optics is an XD Linear Motor system that uses two separate focusing motors to deliver especially quiet, precise, and quick autofocus performance. The lens also sports a dust- and moisture-sealed design and fluorine-coated front lens element to support shooting in inclement conditions.

As part of Sony's esteemed G Master series, this lens is designed to achieve notably high resolution and sharpness through the correction of a wide variety of spherical and chromatic aberrations which you have often seen on lots of landscape pictures. Additionally, these lenses feature robust and intuitive-to-handle physical designs to benefit both photography and cine applications. This lens can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length. Notably fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field.

The Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements are incorporated into the optical design and feature superior surface precision for effective control over astigmatism, field curvature, coma, distortion, and other spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering. One extra-low dispersion element is featured in the lens design and helps to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.

The physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications. Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures. Fluorine-coated front element resists dust, moisture, and fingerprints and is easy to clean. Rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Final Thoughts

As you would expect the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 G Master is very expensive just like the other GM lenses out there. Also expected, since this is a G Master lens, is spectacular optical performance, and this lens certainly lives up to that.

In this lens, the two things really stand out and the first is its size, of course – it’s not small, but it’s nothing like some of the f/1.4 monsters we’ve seen recently, including Sony’s existing Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 ZA or the Sigma prime lenses. It is perfectly weighed ‘declickable’ aperture ring to the smooth and light focus ring to the handy customizable Focus Hold button – this is just a great lens to use.

This is more than just a low-light lens. You can shoot at f/1.4 with absolute confidence and get the kind of shallow depth in outdoor shots that you might never have expected from a semi-wide lens.
