Instagram has its own statement on blue tick or verification whatever you wanna call that. It says that a verified badge means “That Instagram has confirmed that this is an authentic account for the public figure, celebrity or global brand or something particular thing it represents.”

“Accounts representing well-known figures and brands are verified because they have a high likelihood of being impersonated. We want to make sure that people in the Instagram community can easily find the authentic people and brands they want to follow.”

Instagram also makes it clear that it is up to them to decide who qualifies as a public figure, celebrity or global brand. You cannot just apply to become verified which doesn't make any sense right?

What is a Verified Badge Means?

Instagram blue checkmark which you might have seen on celebrities, athletes, singers or in some other filed peoples as well which basically indicates ( a seal with a check in the center) means that the account is officially verified by Instagram. People, brands, and businesses with the Instagram verified badge are authentic and It's run by them only.

Why does everyone want a blue tick on Instagram?

Let’s know a little truth. That blue check is important for verifying real Instagram accounts, but it’s also a status symbol. After all, if you’ve earned a blue badge on Instagram you must be somebody “notable”, right? and they also might be proud of that obviously

That’s why getting Instagram verified is a major milestone for growing accounts especially for the value and trust that gives the audiences over other users. However, if you’re wondering who exactly gets a verified profile on Instagram, the platform leaves the exact requirements a little vague. I mentioned the thing that you need to have before you proceed for the verification process.

Who is eligible to be Instagram verified?

The Instagram blue checkmark is not that easy to attain if you are thinking about that right now but it is definitely possible if you are eligible and completed these categories. Instagram verification is reserved for accounts that Instagram deems “in the public interest.” More specifically, you must be a public figure, celebrity or global brand.

You must adhere to the network’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. And, as Instagram explains on its website, your account must also be:

• Authentic. Obviously, you have to be who you say you are. That is a real person, registered business, or brand.
• Unique. Only one account per person or business can get Instagram verified, with exceptions for language-specific accounts. Instagram says it does not verify general interest accounts like meme roundups. Fan accounts also don’t qualify.
• Public. If you’re looking to verify your Instagram account, surely your account is already viewable to everyone, yes? While some brands have experimented with private Instagram accounts, these accounts do not qualify for verification.
• Complete. You must have a complete bio, profile photo, and at least one post.
• Notable. Again, Instagram stresses that verified accounts must “represent a well-known, highly searched for person, brand, or entity.”

Even if you already have a verified badge on Facebook or on other social media, that doesn’t mean you will be eligible to get verified on Instagram. Getting verified on Facebook is a little easier than on Instagram.

Whereas Facebook grants verification small businesses and organizations, Instagram says it will only grant a verified badge to “notable” accounts that are “in the public interest” and “have a high likelihood of being impersonated.”

How to Request Verification on Instagram

• Log into your account and navigate to Settings from the menu on the top right

• Inside Settings, click on “Account”.

• Select “Request Verification”

• Complete the required fields and then hit send to start the review process

• After sending the request wait for the process.

As Instagram states, just because your account may be eligible for verification doesn’t necessarily mean it will be designated as such. There is no guaranteed timeline for when you’ll be notified, but if denied, you’ll have to wait 30 days before attempting to request verification again which is a nice thing anyway.

A few things to note after submitting your Instagram verification request

1. There’s no minimum follower requirement to be verified on Instagram: Instagram verification doesn’t require you to have a certain amount of followers to apply for verification (unlike some of their other features!) but, more importantly, having millions of followers doesn’t guarantee verification either. It’s all about those criteria which I mentioned above.

2. Instagram does not give you reasons for denying verification requests: Users will receive a notification that says your account hasn’t met the criteria and that’s it. which is bit of a bummer right? but you can submit again after 30 days' time.

3. There is no way to manually submit news articles you’ve been featured in – Instagram does their own research on press and appearances. If the articles you’ve been featured in can be found on Google, they will find them! If you’ve been featured in publications make sure your / your business name is listed in the title or the excerpt that displays on google. If your name is mentioned in passing it may not hold as much weight.

4. There’s no telling when Instagram will approve or deny your request: In typical Instagram fashion, it can take days or weeks. Just keep an eye on your notifications for your approval or denial message that's it.

5. You will NOT receive an email from Instagram asking you to apply for verification: If you are thinking there might be someone who will help you to verify your account for some amount of fees don't believe them they all are fake and you'll lose all the money. There are lots of scams related to Instagram verification so make sure you don’t fall for any. If you receive an email from Instagram suggesting you can get verified by clicking a link, PLEASE DON’T DO IT! This is how you get your account hacked most of the time! and that’s definitely not Instagram! The only way to be verified on Instagram is by submitting the official application process noted above.
